“Around me the trees stir in their leaves and call out, “Stay awhile.” The light flows from their branches. And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say, and you too have come into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled with light, and to shine.”

Schedule a Session

I serve the greater Portland Metro area, including Lake Oswego, West Linn, Tualatin, Tigard, Beaverton, Sellwood, and Vancouver, Washington.

My comfortable, home practice office suite containing waiting room, treatment room and bathroom is located in a rambling cottage on a quiet, wooded acre in southwest Portland, near Garden Home/Multnomah Village neighborhoods. There is private parking, and a well-marked stone path to the door. The office is about ten minutes from Lewis and Clark College, OHSU and PCC Sylvania and Tigard Town Center; fifteen or twenty minutes from downtown Portland and from Beaverton Town Square. Heavy traffic times affect the commute, however.

When you schedule an appointment, I will provide you with specific driving and parking directions prior to our first session.

Call 503-799-5762 to schedule a session; you can also email me with questions about my practice, or times/openings. Please leave me a phone number and a good time or two to return your call.

My practice hours and days are Tuesday, 9-5:30; Wednesday 9:30-6:30 and Thursday 9:30 to 6:30.

I require 24 hours notice to cancel your appointment, which is a time I hold open for you and our work. This cancellation time is short, and as such I charge a $75.00 fee for any missed appointments. There may be an exception for sickness and true emergencies. Please call me at 503-799-5762 to cancel or to reschedule an appointment.

Policies & Fees

I charge $100 for a 60 minute individual session. The first session works best if we have 90 minutes, and for this “intake session” only, the charge is also $100. Couples counseling is also available for $120 for a 60 minute session. Longer, 90 minute sessions for both couples or individuals are available when scheduled in advance. Payment is due at the start of each session, unless we have spoken and arranged otherwise. Your prior attention to these financial arrangements allows us to more quickly focus our time on why you are coming.

I maintain two free or low-cost “scholarship” slots for those seeking quality counseling, but whose finances are limited due to the changes they are going through. Those served in the past in these slots have often been students or seekers who were challenging themselves to grow beyond their perceived ideas of who they were or what they might be capable of offering to the world. They are sometimes working toward a profession in the healing or helping arts. I consider these as “Pay it Forward” slots, and offer them in gratitude to my many spiritual teachers and clinical mentors of many years. If you find yourself here, please ask about this option. There is sometimes a waiting list.

I also offer a 20% discount off of my hourly fee for those paying cash without using insurance. There are benefits for each of us in this arrangement.

Most people pay by check or cash, or by credit card in my office. You may pay in advance by using PayPal, or in my office by credit card at time of service. I can provide you an end-of-the-year invoice for tax filing if you wish.

My Services

I am an in-network provider for Aetna, Cigna, Great West and Lifewise. Many insurance companies cover my services as an “out of network” provider. I have worked well with ODS, United, Providence, Pacificare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield this way. Whether this can work for you usually hinges on two factors: whether you have out of network mental health benefits, and whether you have an out of network deductible that is affordable for you.

If we can move forward from the above, I offer direct billing for your insurance company on your behalf after each session. This is a service I provide to add to your choices of providers you can work with, as you don’t have to pay me out of pocket first. Please be aware that insurance billing will include a diagnostic code (that reflects the reason you are seeking mental health therapy).

Working with your insurance company can be complicated whether in or out of network. It can help you in your decision if you call ahead, after reading the following helpful pointers:

  • Give your insurance company:
    My name
My tax ID number or EIN:  27-4544197
My credentials:  Oregon LPC license number C2516; and
My National Provider Identifier (NPI) number:  1174828628
  • Ask them to specify whether your insurance will reimburse for code 90806 (individual session). Also remember to ask about the cost of seeing an “out of network” provider if that is the case.
  • If you are told you are covered for me as an “out of network” provider, be sure to ask whether your deductible has been met. Until it has, you will need to pay me up front and I will bill to build against your deductible.

A bit of good news!  Receipts not submitted for insurance claims are usually tax deductible as medical expenses. Ask the person who helps you file your annual returns to help you do this.
